On May 14 and 15, 2022, the 805 names of civilian victims were projected onto the facade of the recently completed OurDomain residential tower. A remarkable event, because only now – after 82 years – do we know who died in the German bombardment of Rotterdam on May 14, 1940. The names have been traced by Stichting Voorouder (Ancestor Foundation), in cooperation with Stadsarchief Rotterdam.
OurDomain stands on a location that had not been built on since the bombing. The residential tower is the last piece of the puzzle. The facade panels of the building have an etching that refers to the ruins of the war. It is an abstract representation of a historical photograph taken in the Waalhaven after the Germans destroyed the quays later in the war. As a permanent reminder for now and coming generations.
