In the context of the exhibition ‘Immeasurably Important’, currently on display at the ABC Architecture Centre in Haarlem, a discussion took place on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, examining the rise of Artificial Intelligence in light of the crucial soft values of architecture—such as community spirit, the intuitive use of space, urban layering, and participatory processes.
This discussion featured contributions from Lars Rutten of GROOSMAN Architects (‘AI Applied in Practice’), Florian Witsenburg of Tygron Platform (‘Data as the Oil of the Design Process’), Feras Alsaggaf from TU Delft (‘Research into the Quantification of Soft Values’), and Bart Mispelblom Beyer of TANGRAM Architects (‘AI and the Soft Values of Architecture’).
Following the introductory presentations, a lively debate ensued under the inspiring moderation of Gabriël Verheggen, engaging students, project developers, architects, and journalists in an animated exchange on AI, the built environment, and the broader future of the profession.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the speakers and all attendees—especially to Gabriël and the ABC Architecture Centre—for making this event a great success!
The discussion will continue on Tuesday, November 19, at Pakhuis de Zwijger, in a talk show format titled ‘Tech for Society’. This event will feature Indira van ‘t Klooster from Arcam Architecture Centre Amsterdam, Amy Sterrenberg (PhD researcher in AI-driven infrastructure), Ron Bakker (founder of PLP Architects and author of Smart Building), Gideon Maasland (director at MVRDV), and Bart Mispelblom Beyer of TANGRAM.
We warmly invite everyone to attend!
