In the series of essays on AI in de Architect NL, Bart Mispelblom Beyer from TANGRAM Architects reflects on the risks of adopting technology without a clear vision.

Just as the rise of AutoCAD and later BIM/Revit once led to standardization and a loss of spatial intuition, AI now threatens to undermine the soft values of architecture if embraced without critical reflection. Bart advocates for a fundamentally different approach: using AI as a catalyst for quality—not as a replacement for creativity.

The third and final part of the series was published today in de Architect NL, with a call to architects: “Don’t fall into the same trap.”

de Architect NL has dedicated a series of three essays by Guus Enning and Bart Mispelblom Beyer to this topic. The first essay, titled “AI in the Architecture Firm Is Like a Swiss Army Knife: ‘A Precision Tool with Great Potential’”, appeared on May 28, 2025. The second part, “Will AI Replace Architects in the Future?”, was published on June 18. The final essay is available as of today.
