Study 2012
NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION IN A CITY PARK
The study ‘NME – Kleverlaanzone, a unique opportunity for Haarlem,’ illustrates the possibilities for the future development of this beautiful green area north of the Haarlem city center. The area extends like a ‘green finger’ from the dunes into the city and is within walking distance from the station. The Kleverlaanzone currently feels somewhat lost due to its lack of context and is a series of four separate landscapes with various, disjointed functions.
The goal of the study is to strengthen the unity and green quality and add more public functions.
A Nature Education Center (NME) will play a central role in the zone.
The vision outlines a clear spatial definition of the entire zone: creating a sense of spatial unity without losing diversity. Where the (historical) quality already exists, it is restored and even enhanced.
The different areas have their own character and are interconnected by a clearly readable east-west walking route. This route not only connects various functions – such as a bird hospital, a restaurant, and some self-sufficient homes – but also forms a network of informal paths for exploration.
