FACADE OF MOSS AND HEMPS

Olymp is an internationally operating German textile business, which is proud of its origins as a small family business and close ties with the Stuttgart region. Moreover, Olymp stands for quality textiles and craftsmanship, excellent value for money, and an ecologically sustainable and social product. Owing to its rapid growth, the business needs a new logistics centre.

The new building expresses Olymp’s values in a subtle and understandable way. It is a fairly simple volume with a façade that expresses the Olymp philosophy.

The various layers of the façade are designed and detailed in a sustainable manner. Two façade layers are added to the supporting structure of the logistics hall: an expressive layer of green moss, and a more symbolic layer consisting of an open-weave stretched canvas that features an enlarged pattern of cotton fibres. This canvas is made of natural hemp fibres and then soaked in bio-resin. The advantage of this natural bio-composite material is that it is lightweight and fully recyclable, and its entire production follows the Cradle-to-Cradle principle.
LED lighting ensures that the façade is illuminated from within after nightfall and visible from afar.
